Oil in Algarve: Surfers instead of protest banners and signs, use your surf boards

The Costa Vicentina in the Algarve famous for its surfing is under serious threat from oil exploration with the public consultation ending on 3 August 2016, and we can expect that the intention of government is to go ahead with it, in spite of the thousands of objections lodged already against it.

As a result we call on the more than 10,000 strong surfing community – with many of its members visit and uses the waves in our famous beaches on a daily basis - to come forward and show their support by using their surf boards as canvas for their messages to the Portuguese government and oil companies executives.

We all need to get active on this issue and to remain fiercely opposed to dangerous and destructive drilling that would offer no relief at the gas pump, but would threaten our pristine beaches and endanger our vital tourism industry. So show your support – join us on 3rd August.

Here’s some examples of what you can do.

and ... if you don't want to use your surf board - you can always resort to using your beach tower :-)
