We congratulate the Capitania Lagos for the issue of the new Edital, which we deem as being a more fair process for the allocation of beach licences for commercial surf schools.
The new Edital requires that all interested surf schools submit an application by no later than the 23 May 2013. Only four licences will be issued by the Capitania per beach:
- Each applying surf school must indicate the beaches they are applying a licence for. Should applications be for more than one beach, them beaches must be listed by order of preference.
The selection criteria will be based on the following:
- Schools that were not issued with a licence previously for these beaches will be given preference.
- Distance to the beach of the surf school.
- Oldest Portuguesa Surf Federation licences.
This will enable surf schools that have until now been prevented from having access to these beaches, to now have a chance of qualifying for at least one of the licences.
In the interium, ASMAA has proposed to the Capitania de Lagos, that both associations, being ASMAA and AESCV be given access to one corridor per beach and that each corridor daily surf school allocation be managed by the associations and usage distributed fairly between its members on a rota schedule.
We await the outcome of this process. But in the interium we wish the surf schools in the Algarve a great summer season.
