ASMAA "Class Action" status challenged by Big Legal Guns unleashed by Portuguese government and ENI/Galp

In spite of the fact that ASMAA, in June 2016, February and December 2017, represented 42,295 public objections in the Portuguese Parliament against the granting of drilling licence to ENI/Galp, a pack of big legal guns employed by ENI/Galp with the full support of the Portuguese government, is challenging the legitimacy of ASMAA’s Class Action, representing all those individuals and organisations that objected to the planned drilling in Aljezur.

In this legal action and for the opposing parties, none other than their most senior partners, heads the pack of the big legal guns - representing two of the top Portuguese legal firms. We were pleasantly surprised to see in their midst an ex-government minister. We are honoured by the fact that our legal actions deserve such highly respected opposition.

As a result of their objection to our Class Action, the court (TAF Loulé) has instructed us to publish an advertisement informing all the interested parties in this action of this challenge brought forward against all of us (i.e. anyone that is against the offshore drilling by the ENI/Galp consortium in Aljezur’s surrounding ocean).

This advert will be published in a major national newspaper on Friday 21 September 2018.

THIS IS AN EARLY WARNING of what’s to come so that you can prepare yourself to act during the course of next week, if you are really serious about not wanting any deep-offshore oil drilling in the Portuguese surrounding oceans.

On Friday 21 September, we will publish a copy of the published advert, as well as guidelines on how to ensure that ASMAA can legally and with the full support of the Portuguese legal system be your voice in this matter. So that we can continue to represent you against what we perceive as one of the biggest risk to our environment, our quality of life and the overall public interest.

For further info you have to wait until Friday. If you can’t get through to us then, feel free to contact us via email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
