5G will allow countless appliances and everyday objects to be connected to the internet at all times. It will bring driverless cars, hologram images instead of video, smart fridges, nappies, washing machines, electricity circuits, coffee machines, your blood sugar, your medicine intake…
But none of this comes without a cost.
Such a level of connectivity will require many more base stations, which raises a growing concern that electromagnetic field radiation may be harmful to health. There is disagreement among scientists on whether 5G millimetre waves are less or more dangerous than 3 or 4G. Scientists wary of potential health risks from 5G point out that nobody knows as very little research has been done. Nobody has been asked whether we want to go down this path and we are heading into this future without consultation and with very little public debate.

"Smart homes" refer to "Homes", and inside a house it is much better to use fiber optic, no need for cellular technology.
Remote vehicles do not use a lot of data, so current 4G is enough for them.
In short - this is a marketing gimmick, but has nothing to do with relaity.
...even though, we might get used to the radiation without long term negative effects... (like we did with the 4G where there were the same concerns in the year 2000 when they sold the licenses! And as a matter of fact, we ALL use it! So, obviously "they" must all think that we would all want it faster and with more potential! Which, undoubtedly, there would be great things possible with it. Including saving a lot of resources and so relieve the planet a bit...)
